April 2004 Raku Field Trip

     Chicago, April 11th, 2004 - Lincoln Square Pottery Studio will hold it's next Raku Field Trip on Sunday April 25th, 2004.

     The field trip will be a day long event and will include discussions about raku and the glaze, and firing of up to 3 pieces. Raku is a Japanese glazing technique. It involves firing a glazed pot in a hot kiln until the glaze has become red hot and melted, and then placing the piece into it in a metal bin filled with combustibles (such as straw, leaves and sawdust). This smokes the piece and causes the glaze to come out with very beautiful iridescent colors.

     The location will be just outside of Chicago (due to city codes regarding raku firing), so transportation must be arranged. everyone will meet at the studio, and then leave in groups. The groups must be as large as 5 but no more than 10. Each student is encouraged to bring their own water, snacks and anything else they might need for a day outing. Students must bring their own pre-bisqued pieces for the raku fire, and will be able to take their finished piece home with them that day.

One Year Anniversary Student Sale and Show

Chicago, April 11th, 2004 - Lincoln Square Pottery Studio will be hosting our One Year Anniversary Student Sale and Show on May 2nd, 2004 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm. We will also have food, drinks, music and pottery competitions. The artwork will remain on display and/or available for purchase through August 20th, 2004. This show will celebrate our first full year in business by featuring the works of our students from the past year. Come see what we've been up to!
