June 2004 Raku Field Trip

     Chicago, May 27th, 2004 - Lincoln Square Pottery Studio will hold it's next Raku Field Trip on Sunday June 6th, 2004.

     The field trip will be a day long event and will include discussions about raku and the glaze, and firing of up to 3 pieces. Raku is a Japanese glazing technique. It involves firing a glazed pot in a hot kiln until the glaze has become red hot and melted, and then placing the piece into it in a metal bin filled with combustibles (such as straw, leaves and sawdust). This smokes the piece and causes the glaze to come out with very beautiful iridescent colors.

     The location will be just outside of Chicago (due to city codes regarding raku firing), so transportation must be arranged. everyone will meet at the studio, and then leave in groups. The groups must be as large as 5 but no more than 10. Each student is encouraged to bring their own water, snacks and anything else they might need for a day outing. Students must bring their own pre-bisqued pieces for the raku fire, and will be able to take their finished piece home with them that day.

Ribfest Chicago Street Fair

     Chicago, May 27th, 2004 - The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Ribfest Chicago (details on their website). The event occurs during the weekend of June 12th from 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm, and on Sunday Jume 13th from 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The festival takes place on Lincoln Ave. between Irving Park Rd and Warner Ave, just half a block away from the studio.

     We will have a booth at the fest where we will be selling student pottery, offering throwing demos, and providing info about the studio.

     The studio will be still be open under it's regularly scheduled Open Studio hours, which are 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on both days.
